| 2008 JULY/AUGUST NEWSLETTER All of us at The Crooked Needle want to say a big THANK YOU for being so patient. We’ve been so busy with the store that we let the website slip our minds. If you’ve been checking it lately, you have noticed that it was a little, well…shall we say ‘dated’?! Summer has a way of getting away from us, but we promise to do better! (You’ll also see a little of what we’ve been up to as you read further!) We hope you caught our annual CHRISTMAS IN JULY HOLIDAY TOUR!! “QUILTS – KITS – COOKIES” Once again we collaborated with Nautical Needle, The Door Mouse and Black Swamp Quilt Shoppe for a fun, inspiring weekend! We all had SO MUCH FUN!! - & hope you did too - getting ready to think Holidays! – checking out all the Christmas samples, & tasting all the Christmas goodies! YUMMY! Of course all who participated picked up some free patterns & goodies from each shop. CONGRATULATIONS!! TO ALL THE WINNERS! - See the SHOP HOP page for a list of all the winners. AND we already have the dates for next years hop! – so plan ahead & mark your 2009 calendars July 16, 17 & 18. This is always one hop you DON’ T want to miss!! We’ve been working on two, yes 2!, new block of the month projects for you. We know how most of you love doing those. Check out the Block of the Month page for details. **NOTE** Due to overwhelming response, the “Summer Roses” BOM has been closed. We can no longer accept new registrations. CURRENT BLOCK OF THE MONTH NEWS---- Our Christmas Block of the Month, as promised is ready for completion! ALL remaining kits are available if you would like to finish in time for the holidays. Or if you prefer, you may still pick up one month at a time. “Golden Stars” is finished & directions available. To date this has been a ‘mystery quilt’! but now you can see what you are working toward. ATTENTION “CHRISTMAS MEMORIES” QUILTERS!! IF you came in the first week of July & picked up all months, we owe you 2 small additional pieces of fabric. These were omitted from a few kits that were picked up before the error was caught. So please call or stop in to pick them up. ELEANOR BURNS’ “UNDERGROUND RAILROAD SAMPLER” This quilt is a classic - & one that every serious quilter should make (at least) once! NOT for beginners, but certainly intermediate quilters will feel confident with this pattern. You may choose the 12” or 6” block size. We have two samples in the store to inspire you. 1st class on Friday 8/22. Class members will have option to decide future class days & times. If you haven’t been in lately, you’ll need to come in & check out the new layout. We didn’t think we’d be able to ‘rearrange the furniture’ in this space, but we were wrong! Let us know how you like it. UPCOMING EVENTS PAGE – check this out for lots of stuff coming!! (Not so NEW) HOURS: The month of May began our evening hours on Tuesdays –we are now open from 10-8om. Sometimes classes will be held but we will always be open. ALSO – FIRST FRIDAYS The 1st Fri of each month we will have a FREE open sew time 5-8 pm. Come to sew on whatever you wish, come early to grab a pizza or sandwich before beginning! Having others to sew - & chat – with is more fun & inspiring. Join us!! KNITTING (K)NEWS -------- Knitting classes are taking off! We’ve had several different knitting classes lately – socks, beginners, kids! There is sure to be one just for you!! Typically classes are each Tuesday & Thursday morning 10-12, most Tuesday evenings 6-8. Classes are taught the ‘one-room-schoolhouse’ style, in that multiple levels/projects could be going on in the same class time (a sure sign of a great teacher!). We will be happy to work with your entire group as one class if you prefer, minimum of 3 persons. If there is a particular project or item that you would like to see made in a class, please let us know. We’re open to additional times or revisions. Please CALL to REGISTER for classes. Especially summertime, when vacations may change the schedule. BEGINNER class - $15.00, includes skein of yarn, your choice of color ADD’L CLASS TIMES - $5.00/session TOPIC CLASS - $15-25, to be determined by Beth & TCN ALL students in ANY class receive % discount on items purchase for a class All classes will help you achieve the next level, whether you are a beginning knitter or advanced. |
